Folc

English rosé without the country-house script. Folc cherry-picks fruit from independent growers, blends it in Canterbury and turns South East England into bright still pinks and a seriously polished traditional-method fizz.

The Story

Folc began in 2019 with a simple provocation: if Britain drinks so much rosé, why should the best bottles always come from somewhere else? Elisha Rai and Tom Cannon left City careers behind and built a producer around pink wine rather than a patch of land. The name means people, tribe and community, and the model follows suit — growers, grapes and a specialist contract winery working together rather than one grand estate doing everything alone. That négociant approach is the point. Folc can choose Pinot from Kent and Suffolk, chalk-grown Chardonnay from the North Downs, Bacchus from the Weald and aromatic varieties from further east, then ask each parcel to do a particular job in the blend. The original still rosé is pale, dry and distinctly English in its energy; the traditional-method sparkling rosé adds nearly two years on lees without losing Folc’s easygoing character. This is wine made to bring people in, not test whether they know the password.

Our Terroir & Heritage

The Vineyards

There is no single Folc vineyard. Instead, the team works with independent family growers across Kent, Suffolk and Sussex, selecting parcels from chalk, sandy clay and greensand. Pinot Noir, Meunier and Précoce give the still rosé its red-fruit core; Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Bacchus and Ortega add perfume, line and lift. The sparkling blend narrows the palette to the classic trio of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. It is a flexible approach well suited to English seasons: choose the strongest fruit, preserve the house style and let several good sites contribute rather than asking one place to be everything.

The Winemaker

WINEMAKER

Nick Lane

Nick Lane leads the Defined Wine team that turns Folc’s selected fruit into finished wine. His career has moved through Burgundy, Cloudy Bay and the cellars behind Dom Pérignon, giving him an unusually broad view of Pinot, blending and traditional-method sparkling wine. At Folc the challenge is consistency without flattening the fruit: keep the still rosé pale, dry and generous, then give the sparkling wine enough lees time to build brioche and texture while the red-apple and berry freshness stays intact.
