The Story

Chilcomb Valley Wines is a family-run vineyard near Winchester, at the western end of the South Downs in Hampshire. The Fordyce family planted its vines in 2016, and the first full estate vintage followed in 2019.

The family aims to express the character of each harvest rather than follow a fixed house style. Small batches, often fewer than 3,000 bottles per wine, allow each cuvée to develop its own identity.

The horseshoe vetch on the label is a native South Downs plant associated with the Adonis blue butterfly—a nod to the landscape around the vineyard.

Our Terroir & Heritage

The Vineyards

The 1.1-hectare vineyard lies on shallow Hampshire chalk soils near Winchester. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir each account for half of the planting.

The family tends the vines through the English seasons and comes together for harvest. The chalk landscape and each year’s growing conditions shape the fruit selected for Chilcomb’s sparkling wines.

The Winemaker

WINEMAKER

The Fordyce family

The family follows its wines from vineyard to finished cuvée, tending the vines, gathering for the annual picking and carefully choosing blends for each release.

Chilcomb’s current range comprises Classic Cuvée Brut and Rosé Brut. Both are made by the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and time ageing on the lees. Explore the wine pages for the current releases and recorded earlier vintages.
