First wines released in 2013
Arundel
Trevor Clough and Jason Humphries founded Digby as a blending house rather than a single-vineyard estate. Its first wines were released in 2013. The name honours Sir Kenelm Digby, the seventeenth-century writer, scientist and inventor associated with the development of the modern wine bottle. Today, Digby works with growers across southern England and welcomes visitors to its tasting room in Arundel.
Digby sources grapes from long-term vineyard partners in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset. These sites include chalk, greensand and clay soils. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier form the basis of the sparkling wines. The company also owns Hilden Vineyard in Kent, acquired in 2021, while continuing to select fruit and base wines from its wider network of growers.
WINEMAKER
Dermot Sugrue is Digby’s consultant winemaker. He works with co-founder and head blender Trevor Clough, who selects and combines wines from different vineyards and harvests to create each blend.
