Petworth
Roebuck Estates began in 2013, when two friends bought their first vineyard site near Petworth in West Sussex. They set out to make sparkling wines that reflect each growing season, releasing their first wine in 2019.
The estate takes its name from the roe deer seen around its vineyards. Today its range focuses on vintage sparkling wines, with tours and tastings bringing visitors to the Petworth estate.
Roebuck’s six vineyard sites span West Sussex, East Sussex and Kent, with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier selected to suit each location.
The home vineyard near Tillington looks south towards the South Downs. Its oldest vines were planted in 2006 on well-drained greensand. Other sites bring contrasting chalk, clay, flint and sandstone soils to the estate’s blends.
Grapes are handpicked and whole-bunch pressed. Vineyard blocks are vinified separately, with a small proportion fermented in aged Burgundian oak. The traditional-method wines spend at least three years ageing on their lees, followed by further time on cork before release.
