Renegade Urban Winery was founded in 2016 and makes wine by hand in East London. Originally based in Bethnal Green, production moved to a purpose-built Walthamstow winery in 2021 while the original site continued as a wine bar. Renegade sources hand-harvested grapes from the UK and Europe and turns them into modern, unconventional wines with distinctive portrait labels.
Renegade is an urban winery rather than an estate vineyard. It buys selected, hand-harvested grapes from growers across the UK and Europe, transports them quickly to Walthamstow and carries out production on site. This sourcing model allows the team to work with a wide range of grapes and styles.
WINEMAKER
Winemaker Sam Middleton leads current production at Renegade’s Walthamstow winery. Working with founder Warwick Smith and the wider team, he makes small-batch still, skin-contact and sparkling wines that favour experimentation, character and accessible storytelling.
