2010
Driffield
Ian Sargent began testing the family’s land at Aike for viticulture in 2010. After planting the first 2,000 vines, the vineyard faced hard frosts and flooding before its first commercial harvest in 2013. A purpose-built winery opened in 2016.
The family has since expanded the vineyard and added traditional-method sparkling wines to its still-wine range. Ian leads winemaking, Ann manages the accounts and their daughter Rebekah leads sales.
Laurel Vines lies at Aike, between Beverley and Driffield in East Yorkshire. Glacial till and clay cover the underlying chalk. The vineyard has 15,500 vines across 12 varieties, selected to suit the cool climate and supply white, rosé, red and sparkling wines. Native hedges and restored wildlife habitats form part of the estate’s environmental work.
WINEMAKER
Owner and Head Winemaker Ian Sargent uses temperature-controlled tanks for the white and rosé wines, with French oak for selected reds. The traditional-method sparkling wines undergo their second fermentation and lees ageing in bottle.

Visit the weekday vineyard shop and Laurel Pantry, or book a vineyard picnic, seasonal wine-bar session, afternoon tea, tasting trail, tour or themed event. Picnics run March–September from £25 per adult and include a vineyard and winery tour, food for two and wine or local beer; the wine bar is £6 including a glass. Children and well-behaved dogs are generally welcome, dietary requests are supported, and detailed access arrangements should be checked before booking.
Vineyard shop: Monday–Friday, 09:00–16:00. Laurel Pantry normally opens Tuesday–Friday, 10:00–14:00; check for occasional closures. Picnics, wine-bar sessions and other experiences run on selected dates and require advance booking.
