The Baxter family began farming in Kent in 1943. Over four generations, the farm expanded from 70 to 200 acres of apples, pears, cherries and apricots. In 2019, Clive Baxter planted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier under a growing contract with Balfour. Albariño followed.
The family’s first own-label harvest was in 2022. Four Daughters is named after Lucy, Amy, Emma and Sophie. Its first Albariño won a WineGB gold medal and a place in the Golden 50.
Amsbury Farm lies on gently south-facing ground near Hunton in Kent, at roughly 40–80 metres above sea level. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier form the main plantings, alongside Albariño. The vineyard remains part of a mixed fruit farm, surrounded by apple, pear, cherry and apricot orchards.
WINEMAKER
The Four Daughters wines are made at Defined Wine in Canterbury using selected parcels from the Baxter family’s vineyard. The range includes Albariño, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; the Chardonnay spends three months in oak.
