Sergio and Lynsey Verrillo opened Blackbook in a Battersea railway arch in 2017. The winery specialises in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from English growers, with single-vineyard wines alongside small experimental releases. Visitors can tour the working cellar and taste wines beside the barrels.
Blackbook sources grapes from English growers rather than owning a vineyard. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are its main varieties, with single-vineyard bottlings identifying the sites that supply the fruit.
WINEMAKER
Sergio Verrillo grew up in the United States and later worked as a sommelier in London at Maze, Tamarind and Chez Bruce. After graduating from Plumpton College in 2014, he gained winemaking experience in England, California, Burgundy, South Africa and New Zealand. At Blackbook he uses indigenous yeasts, older French oak and ageing on the lees, with sulphur additions kept low or omitted according to the wine.

A dry Pinot Noir rosé made in Battersea from Crows Lane Estate fruit in Essex’s Crouch Valley. Strawberry, cherry and raspberry flavours combine with a savoury, creamy texture. Most of the wine spent six months on its lees in seasoned Burgundy barrels.

Bookable visits include a compact cellar tour, four-wine tasting and cellar-door discounts, with private tours available for groups.
