The Story

British wine is full of ambitious ideas, but few begin in a strawberry tunnel. After decades growing soft fruit at Newhouse Farm, Sandy Booth turned his attention to vines in 2023, adapting the farm’s protected growing systems to give grapes greater warmth, consistency and shelter in the New Forest. Working with Swiss oenologist Guillaume Lagger, B58 launched its first collection in 2025. The result is a confident young winery making still wines from familiar and unexpected varieties, with curiosity rather than convention setting the pace.

Our Terroir & Heritage

The Vineyards

Newhouse Farm sits in East Boldre, between the New Forest and the Solent, where a mild coastal microclimate meets rich farm soils. Many vines grow beneath tunnels adapted from soft-fruit farming. The shelter lowers disease pressure, reduces the need for sprays and helps ripen varieties such as Gewürztraminer, Shiraz and Tempranillo that can be challenging outdoors in England. Reused coir, hand weeding, natural pest control, hedgerows and wildflower verges put sustainability into the everyday work of the vineyard.

The Winemaker

WINEMAKER

Guillaume Lagger

Swiss oenologist Guillaume Lagger has been part of B58 since 2022 and shapes the wines with a low-intervention philosophy. He focuses on fruit quality first, then uses a light hand in the cellar so each variety keeps its own voice. The partnership between Guillaume’s winemaking and Sandy Booth’s growing experiments gives B58 its distinctive edge.
