Wadhurst
Some of Bewl Water’s Bacchus vines were planted in the 1970s, making them unusually mature for an English vineyard. Pinot Noir followed in 2005. The family now makes limited quantities of still and sparkling wine from the five-acre site.
The south-facing vineyard lies on clay-rich soil near Bewl Water in the High Weald. Bacchus and Pinot Noir grow alongside the traditional sparkling-wine varieties. The grapes are picked by hand, and the small scale allows most vineyard work to be carried out without heavy machinery.
WINEMAKER
Ashton Radford-Kirby works with the family to make Bewl Water’s wines. The range includes still Bacchus and Pinot Noir as well as traditional-method sparkling wines made in small batches.

Pinot Noir brings red-apple fruit, subtle berry notes and a rounded, savoury edge. Long lees ageing adds toast and texture without losing the freshness that keeps the glass lively.

Ripe orchard fruit and citrus lead into brioche, toasted nuts and a clean mineral finish. A mature traditional-method sparkling wine with enough depth for dinner and enough freshness for a celebratory glass.
