Artelium was founded by Julie Bretland and Mark Collins as a contemporary Sussex estate where wine, art, craft and hospitality meet. Established in 2020, it produces vintage still and sparkling wines and welcomes visitors to a programme of tastings, tours, exhibitions and seasonal food. The estate’s name combines “art” with the Latin idea of a place to gather, reflecting its aim to connect people through creativity, landscape and wine.
Artelium grows Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in its South Downs vineyards. The estate works plot by plot and vintage by vintage, using Sussex fruit to make expressive traditional-method sparkling wines alongside still wines. The vineyard setting also forms part of the visitor experience, with sculpture and contemporary art placed through the landscape.
WINEMAKER
Solly Monyamane joined Artelium as winemaker in 2023. A Stellenbosch University alumnus, he leads the current winery team and develops the estate’s vintage wines with a focus on precision, patience and the individual character of each vineyard parcel.
